Guessing that Taylor Mays would finish as the top overall performer in the Trojans’ end-of-spring combine testing doesn’t exactly qualify you for Mensa.  It was only a slightly tougher choice than picking the winner of shark vs. bait. But, in scrolling down the list of the top 11 performers published on petecarroll.com, a few surprises stick out.  Mays’ score... more »

Make that a thin cardinal line protecting USC's backfield, which also happens to be hamstrung by injuries. While every team looses players during the season (Cal lost to Oregon State without their starting QB, Stanford beat USC without their's), can anybody in the nation match up with the Trojan's carnage? From USC football's weekly press release:Already this season, 11... more »

The USC football team suited up in full pads today, for this time this fall, and entertained the crowd. The team went through their usual routine of individual position drills, but lined up for some live scrimmaging for much of the 2nd half of practice. PCbestever and I were able to attend the entire practice, and he'll fill you... more »

Yet another beautiful day for football, unfortunately I couldn't stay for the entire practice. I left about half-way through practice when the players and coaches took a quick break to get hydrated. Here are a few notes from Thursday's practice...Apparently Scott Wolf was incorrect in reporting that Pete Carroll would miss today's practice as he was there running the... more »

It was a beautiful day for football practice today, and what made it even more beautiful was the sound of helmets crashing. Today the team wore helmets & shoulder pads in what was supposed to be a day of light contact. Light contact? The only light the players saw was a green light for lighting players up... and that's... more »

Back-up safety Will Harris will redshirt this season after tearing knee ligaments in a pickup basketball game.

Harris originally tore knee ligaments last fall, but was expected to be 100% this fall.

Early-enrolling freshman, Antwine Perez, is as tough as they come.

Perez has long been mature for his age. He was forced to grow up quickly when, at 9 years old, his 23-year-old brother, Louis, was shot dead after falling in with the wrong crowd.

With the departure of Darnell Bing and Scott Ware, and the inexperience of Kevin Ellison and Will Harris, the New Jersey-native has a good chance to start at safety for the Trojans this season.
