If you're in the world of sports, what ever you do, don't try and be funny. Just don't do it! Sports is no home for humor. I'm talking to you, LeBrons! And sorry, Chris Bosh, but you're out too! Will Ferrell...shame on you! You just can't do it any more, because the people at UCLA are getting confused. Believe it or not, the simpletons in Brentwood are too naive to understand something as complex as a "joke". It's a serious problem. And this problem goes all the way up to the top: Rick Neuheisel

As reported by Gary Klein of the LA Times, the hilarious Brennan Carroll 'mic'd up" video has been pulled off youtube after a barrage of negative criticism. The video, which was originally well-received, shows Carroll the younger, supervising the walk-on football tryouts at USC. During the four-minute video, Carroll puts on a bit of a show, his performance teetering between the serious and the absurd. At one point Brennan shouts:

"Whistle! Whistle!" Brennan turns to the camera. "I don't have a whistle, so I just shout whistle!"

But apparently that was enough to send Rick Neuheisel's brain into a downward spiral. We're lucky he didn't start a pledge drive to try and fund USC's whistle shortage. What Neuheisel did allegedly do, however, was push "the video to [UCLA] recruits because he thought it reflected negatively on USC's program."

USC Song Girls Take It Off for Charity Again

You have to like it when the USC Song Girls are wet, which happened to be the case Saturday at the annual Swim With Mike charity fundraiser on campus. Once again, the Wiz would like to thank the Trojan-Haters Club for a look at the festivities, and you can see more shots by going to their site.
The featured event was the Song Girl-Football Player relay. You might recall last year, when the headliner was Pete Carroll and Will Ferrell in a head-to-head race. A record $1,000,000 was raised Saturday and you can find out more about Swim With Mike by clicking here. There's another fundraiser coming this Saturday at the University of Hawaii Aquatics Complex.

All those paper fans featuring the head of Will Ferrell that were distributed at the Galen Center the past two weekends could not rescue Will Farrell's new movie, ``Semi-Pro'' from a disappointing opening. The movie took in $15.3 million, about $10 million less than expected.
``Will Ferrell is always a draw and audiences love him. But this particular weekend is not quite as strong as his earlier efforts," said box-office guru Paul Dergarabedian, who is a USC graduate like Ferrell.

Recruiting: Paris Hilton Sightings Will Do

As far as I know, USC doesn't bring recruits to the home of Trojans' coach Pete Carroll. Nope, no ping ping is happening there. However, like everyone else in this salesman's game, USC's got a pitch: celebrities and the California lifestyle.

Comedic actor Will Ferrell is a regular on the USC sidelines when not filming spots with players or losing charity swim events against Carroll. Other middling celebrities are often spotted on the Trojan sidelines (Nick Lachey, Alyssa Milano, etc.). They're even in the stands, as "The Fonz" Henry Winkler is a regular. The celeb spotting has also become a recruiting pitch.

USC made sure to sell just that to a linebacker recruit out of the state of Alabama named Jerrell Harris:

The recruiting process has been whirlwind, allowing him to catch a glimpse of socialite Paris Hilton and singer Eve on a recruiting trip to USC.

And so it goes.

Recruiting just got even easier for Pete Carroll and Tim Floyd.

It's already alluring to go where Snoop Dogg, Suge Knight, and Will Ferrell roam the sidelines.

Master P and Donald Faison recently came to Midnight Madness.

A break from training camp looks like this.

It's a college campus with near-perfect weather and manicured, well, everything. One popular college football blog runs a weekly column entitled "Pete Carroll's Enchanted Gridiron Grotto."

And speaking of grottoes, Hugh Hefner just gave $2 million to the school of Cinematic Arts. The school already has a censorship class and the Chair for the Study of American Film named after the Playboy mogul. Now his name is going up on "a central exhibition space."

But that would never cross the mind of an 17 year-old high school boy, would it?
