USC Football: Still soooo Hollywood
Even with the absence of Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, USC is still finding a way to get ink in the entertainment trades. It's just the AP story re-published, but still funny to see USC Football in The Hollywood Reporter.
USC's information czar, Tim Tessalone, launched a formal complaint to ABC about Brent Musburger revealing John David Booty's "hang loose" signal for pointing out one-on-one coverage.
Pete Carroll, possibly realizing the irony in the situation (hang loose), didn't seem too concerned, joking about it Tuesday at the PC Press Luncheon:
"Once it's said, there is nothing you can do about it. I am sure that they were not watching the broadcast at the time (room laughing), I'm sure of that. It's just something that happened. I'm not worried about it. It's such an incidental little thing. There are plenty of signals."
The "Hang Loose" or the "Shaka" sign as it's often referred to, originated in Hawaii.
We'd suggest that USC linebacker Kaluka Maiava had something to do with bringing it across the Pacific, but really, it's just so common within the surf culture, it would be hard not to know what it is living in California or anyplace where one can find some tasty waves...

FIRE BRENT "MUSHMOUTH" MUSBURGER...He is quite possibly the worst announcer I've ever heard and if he is college football's answer to the retirement of Keith Jackson, ABC is in trouble...

I watched the USC v Notre Dame game tonight and Musburger spent most of the game talking about Brady Quinn. One would have thought he was either an agent or a fawning admirer of the Notre Dame QB. Musburger is truly sickening and needs to be gone from ABC broadcasts. He is an aging relic among an otherwise fine group of sportscasters.
