USC drops from #3 to #8 in BCS
The Trojans no longer control their own destiny.
Their fate now rests with what happens in the Big East (often referred to as the Big Least).
Undefeated West Virginia will play undefeated Louisville. Undefeated Rutgers will play both West Virginia and Louisville. So the Trojans need Rutgers to beat the victor of West Virginia/Louisville, and lose to the loser of West Virginia/Louisville.
If that happens, the Trojans have such a difficult schedule ahead that if they finish strong and win out, they can state their case for playing in the national championship game.
Of course the Big Least scenario seems highly unlikely. And others may think that USC winning out is even more unlikely. But until there is a college playoff, we'd love to see the BCS dealt a bunch of 1-loss contenders like USC, Texas, Florida, Auburn and either Michigan or Ohio State.

First things first - win the Pac 10. The Rose Bowl is a BCS Bowl Game and the last time we were robbed of a National Championship shot, we won the Rose Bowl and ended up winning the AP National Champions Trophy.
So let us first go for what the Pac 10 offers us - the Rose Bowl.

Yes, Oregon State went up 14-0 on Boise State and then rolled over and died -- giving up 42 unanswered to lose 42-14.
Boise State is another undefeated team. Hopefully Fresno State can do USC a favor and deal them a loss this Wednesday (11/1).

The whole OSU flop was a fluke. USC still controls its own destiny in regards to the Pac-10 Championship. The fact is, USC still has greatness in it. I can score at will when it opens up and stretches the field. The problem is, the coaching staff isn't doing that unless they are forced to, i.e. against the clock at half or when they are down late in a game. Now that USC lost, maybe the team will get to relax, spread the field out and play some good ole fashioned Trojan football. I can confidently say that USC would beat every team out there (other than Ohio State) RIGHT NOW. The fact that USC turned the ball over 4 times and didn't manage to get one turnover on defense, AND still only lose by 2 on the last play, says a lot to me - mainly that this team is special and can do great things if they are allowed to.

USC fans and their optomism remind me scarily of (George, not Reggie) Bush fans.
