USC 5th in Opening BCS Rankings

Devon Pollard, TrojanWire

It's that time of year once again. USC is in the 5th position to kick off the 2008 season's official BCS rankings. 5th wouldn't be too bad...if they had some ranked teams left to play on their schedule. Previous #25 Cal just fell to Arizona, so Cal is no longer helping. And Notre Dame just can't seem to pull it off. No longer masters of their own destiny, the Trojans must play wait-and-see, hoping that somebody above them will trip up and tumble down the mountain. ESPN just put out an article: USC needs to root for chaos... and Ohio State.

The top 10 BCS standings:
1. Texas 7-0
2. Alabama 7-0
3. Penn State 8-0
4. Oklahoma 6-1
5. USC 5-1
6. Oklahoma State 7-0
7. Georgia 6-1
8. Texas Tech 7-0
9. Ohio State 7-1
10. Florida 5-1
