The O.J. Mayo "Incident"

Rory MacDonald, TrojanWire

A lot of people have been floating comments here, questioning the character and attitude of O.J. Mayo, following a two technical-foul ejection in a recent high school game versus in-state rival Charleston.

Those people probably didn't see this video, which was brought to our attention by True Hoop.

I think that ref is just mad because he's in his 50's reffing high school games and then when he goes to his real job he has to put on a mcdoanlds uniform haha

that was the worst call i have ever seen. the ref should be fined and suspended for trying to ruing a kids life and future. if this incident is not viewed carefully and investigated it might damage the young man's future. you can clearly see the ref single this guy out the hold time, like he has a problem with him.

Normally when there's a confrontation in a basketball game you see the refs pulling players apart and when the players are separated the refs try and cool the players off to defuse the situation. Not this ref. This ref just stands there, puts his whistle in his mouth, and waits for Mayo to come back so he can give him another T. Mayo is always going to be scrutinized because he is so talented. The first 10 seconds of this video say it all.

Despite possible altercations developing amongst several other players, the ref's eyes oddly remain focused only on Mayo the entire time, even when Mayo walks away from the center of the action...suggesting that the ref was waiting for any reason to give Mayo a "T". Looks like maybe Mayo's foot clipped the ref from behind unintentionally, can't tell, but the ref crashing to the ground was a dive worthy of a penalty in the NHL. What's with this ref?

Is this a basketball game or a football game? What are there, 4 refs on the floor?

As for the T's, it looks like this ref was zeroed in on him the whole time. Makes you wonder if they expected trouble from him. That, or some opponent didn't want to face him and slipped some cash to get him suspended.
