This is the first time that a pair of Heisman Trophy winners (USC’s Matt
Leinart and Oklahoma’s Jason White) will face each other in a game.

USC has never played a game on Jan. 4. This is also the latest USC has ended a season since the 1891 campaign (Feb. 22, 1892);
Troy’s debut 1888 season also ended late (on Jan. 19, 1889).

Between them, USC’s staff has coached in 77 bowl games at the major college level.

In years that USC beat UCLA and Notre
Dame and then played in a bowl game, the Trojans are 10-1 (wins in 1938-62-67-72-74-76-78-79-2002-03 and the loss in 1981).
