TMZ Reporting O.J. Simpson Released From Jail

TMZ reported this afternoon that O.J. Simpson had officially been released from a Nevada prison pending his appeal on a robbery and kidnapping conviction.

(TMZ pulled its botched post - damn that Google cache!)

One small detail: Simpson has not yet been released. And if he eventually is, it would be highly unusual.

Media Protip: Never double-cross on cash envelope amount to prison guards.

Reticent to go into a full blown O.J. love fest, we'll just say the man was a legend. As a Trojan and in the NFL. And that will never change.

Charles White's Heisman Draws No Bids

The 1979 Heisman Trophy that was awarded to USC's Charles White was posted on eBay last week, but with a starting price of $299,999.99, the item drew no bids. This despite a shipping cost of only $5.

White sold the trophy in 2000 to settle tax debts and it has changed hands several times since. It was recently acquired at auction for $216,000 by Arkansas collector John Rogers, who says he wants to get the trophy back in White's hands — for a price, of course.

"It pains me to think anyone would be forced to sell something so special," he said.

Few Heismans have been put on the market. According to the eBay post, O.J. Simpson's 1968 trophy was sold in February 1999 for $230,000. Yale end Larry Kelley sold his 1936 Heisman in December 1999 for $328,110. The 1941 trophy won by Minnesota halfback Bruce Smith fetched $395,240, and Paul Hornung sold his 1956 Heisman for $250,000 to endow scholarships for Notre Dame students from his hometown of Louisville.

But after White sold his trophy in 2000, the Downtown Athletic Club required that recipients sign an agreement not to sell the award.

Thanks to M Victors.

O.J. Simpson Beaten & Bloodied By Own Daughter

Well, here’s a fun little story. Arnelle Simpson, daughter of ex-running back/acquitted-part-time-double-murderer guy Orenthal James Simpson, got in a bit of a tussle with her pops Sunday night. And police were involved!

Arnelle was apparently upset with O.J.’s ladyfriend, Christie Prody, about her “behavior” - specifically her tendency to take a few more pulls from her flask than appropriate. 61-year-old O.J. got in the middle of the creepy catfight between his 39-year-old daughter and 32-year-old sexual partner, and got pushed to the ground in the process.

Why USC-UCLA is the most overrated rivalry

The USC-UCLA rivalry is the most overrated in college football. There is a rivalry. There is some emotion. There is some dislike.

But, c'mon. It's in L.A.

There are the sellout crowds at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl. There's the delight the Bruins took in ending the Trojans' national championship hopes in 2006 with a 13-9 upset. There's the 1967 game, in which the No. 4 Trojans and their Heisman Trophy candidate, tailback O.J. Simpson, defeated the No. 1 Bruins and their Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Gary Beban, 21-20. The game turned on Simpson's 64-yard, gravity-defying touchdown sprint in the fourth quarter. Dan Jenkins, the best college football writer since Grantland Rice, has that '67 game on his short list of all-time greats.

But, c'mon. It's still in L.A.

These people don't know how to hate a college football opponent. The weather's too nice. There's too much else to do. College football is just not important enough.

Top Ten Trojan Athletes of All Time

Top of the list - Marcus Allen - Image from SI.com

Sports Illustrated on Campus has just released its list of what it believes are the best Trojan athletes of all time. The staff at Sports Illustrated didn't shy away from personal scandal and professional controversy when making their picks. They simply chose the best of the best of the best. And no, not all that made the top ten list played SC football. These Trojan greats, both men and women alike, formed a cross-section of collegiate sports. The played with racquets, bats, hoops and balls. They swam, stole, hit and ran their way into the history books, breaking university, Pac-10 and NCAA records.

These proud ten came to attend USC from all over the world, with different backgrounds and different dreams. But they all shared one commonality: they were part of a larger Trojan family...a family made greater by the legacy they've left behind.

The complete list is as follows:

10. Mark McGwire
9. Lenny Krayzelburg
8. Carson Palmer
7. Lisa Leslie
6. Stan Smith
5. Reggie Bush
4. Matt Leinart
3. Cheryl Miller

O.J. Simpson and "the Assassins" in All-Pro Football 2K8

Take Two Interactive is drawing extra criticism (attention) today for not just including O.J. Simpson in their video game, but featuring him on a team called "the Assassins" where a touchdown (at the end of the video) prompts an over-sized Grim Reaper-like mascot to celebrate with a knife.

O.J. Simpson's Memorable 64-Yard TD Run

Brian Grummell, AOL Fan House

Back in 1967, there was a hotly contested battle between city rivals #1 UCLA and #2 USC. UCLA quarterback and eventual Heisman Trophy winner Gary Beban had a fine afternoon throwing the ball despite aching ribs. However, his solid play was not quite enough as a fatigued O.J. Simpson made perhaps the most fabled run in college football history… continue

O.J.'s book left off Hashmarks Summer Reading List

I've been overwhelmed by your literacy. At last count, I had more than 200 recommendations for our summer reading list, which will be unveiled at Lake Highlands' White Rock Coffee next Wednesday if I can convince the owners to turn down The Fray's "How to save a life," which plays on a continuous loop.

Sadly, I've decided to leave O.J. Simpson's timeless classic, If I did it, off the list. The book, which never made it to bookstores, is part of an ongoing court battle between Simpson and Ronald Goldman's family. The Goldmans won a $38 million civil judgment in a wrongful death lawsuilt and would eventually like to see some of it.

The family is attempting to gain control of the book and change the title to Confessions of a Double Murderer.

OK, I have a flight that leaves for Newark in a little more than a hour. I should probably go.

Run Like O.J. in All-Pro Football 2K8

Because EA and their Madden franchise were anointed as the "exclusive" makers of NFL video games, developers have been looking for a way around it.

Enter All-Pro Football 2K8 from 2K Sports, a subsidiary of Take Two Interactive, most famous for Grand Theft Auto.

LEGENDS - Over 240 NFL legends make their return to the gridiron, including Hall of Famers such as Johnny Unitas, Dick Butkus, Joe Montana, Mike Singletary, Reggie White, Walter Payton and "the Juice" himself -- O.J. Simpson.

SIGNATURE STYLE - Legends have their own signature moves in the game - Barry's spin, Walter's scissors kick, Jerry's one-handed grab -- they're all there.

The game will be out later this year on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and will cost $59.95.

O.J. Simpson Says He Could Be the Father of Anna Nicole's Baby

The star running back and the recently deceased blond bombshell were in Naked Gun 33 1/3 together (1994).

If a 12 year gap is at all puzzling, kudos to you for thinking, but the Juice told Norm Pardo, his videographer from 2000-2005, that he "had" slow-moving juice.

"He said he knew Anna Nicole pretty well, and he said he had slow-moving sperm, and he might be the father."

No, we are not joking. That quote was printed in the NY Post's Page Six.
