New Coliseum rules for '04

Kyle Bunch, TrojanWire

The Daily Trojan

href="http://www.dailytrojan.com/news/2004/09/09/Sports/New-Rules.To.Limit.Usc.Fans-713711.shtml">details the new rules in place at the Coliseum for SC

games in 2004:

Signs in the stadium will be allowed only with prior approval by the athletic department.

And it doesn't stop at a farewell to signs:

Students who want to save seats for their organization can only do so from row 25 (the endzone) and over and must have a minimum of five people

from the organization to save one row. The new seat-saving rule is a test rule only, as the department says it is "experimenting."

All that sounds fine, as does the stated attempts to crack down on students passing their activity card to other students, a time-honored tradition for many

Trojan students:

"One of the problems has been (that) students that buy activity cards and get a little sticker on their ID and pass it through the fence to

non-students. LAPD is going to be all over that as well as our crowd-control people," Ludwig said.

One question here at TrojanWire--doesn't the LAPD have bigger issues to deal with when a crowd of 90,000 people gets together? It's one thing for DPS and

Coliseum staff to fight students sneaking into games. Do we really need to waste armed policemen on this?

We can only hope that cops are too busy worrying about students ID-card abuse (and USC's already massive bottom line) to make sure all of us are safe at this

year's games.

Yeah no shit. Since more than just UCLA/ND games will be sold out, why don't they just issue tickets for ALL GAMES to students that buy the "activity card"

instead of waste police resources to avoid a fire code violation.

The approving of signs by the athletic dept is totally bullshit. What kind of anal retentive asshole came up with that rule? I suppose any profain speech

will have to be expressed on a T-shirt.

it sucks that the football team (esp matt leinart) doesn't want to sign autographs for students anymore...

some may think its because they consider themselves too hollywood or more likely it's because of poeple selling their autographed merchandise on ebay (someone told me there was a team rule about not signing anything anymore period- due to ebay); it makes these 'heroes' of USC standoffish and unwilling to be friendly to fans and supporters of not just the football team but the university itself.

its really sad---instead of getting a souvenir from players that you enjoyed watching and admired for boosting your school to national stage again; youre left w/ a bitter taste in your mouth.
