Mike Garrett

That O.J. Mayo-Michael Beasley talk that lasted nearly a week fizzled in the first half. The heralded freshmen combined for only 12 points in the first half (seven by Mayo, only two shots for Beasley), when Kansas State went into the locker room with a 10-point lead to the dismay of the small USC contingent at the Qwest Center.... more »

USC's athletic director Mike Garrett has just sent out an important letter to the Trojan Family, explaining the current predicament with the Coliseum and the subsequent lease of the Pasadena Rose Bowl for future home games.

More importantly Mike Garret urges that those in favor of keeping USC home games at the Coliseum contact the Coliseum Commission and let their voice be heard:

The Coliseum Commission is made up of representatives from the city, the county and the state. They need to know how you feel about this. I believe that our voices will be heard if we work through our elected officials. I urge you to e-mail, fax or phone the appropriate officials...

If you're a die hard Trojan fan who thinks of the Coliseum as a second home, or even you just want to read more to find out what you can do to help, please follow this link: Help keep the Coliseum in the Trojan Family!

Mark Saxon, OC Register As an NCAA investigation into the Reggie Bush matter drags toward its two-year anniversary, officials in the USC athletic department are increasingly confident little will come of it. Our friend Boi From Troy raises an interesting point about Reggie Bush, Mike Garrett, and the other significance of those 2 yards the Trojans needed so badly and did not get in the Rose Bowl.

Let's all be thankful he only realized this now -- when we've got a season starting in just over 2 weeks to distract us from any further analysis of that particular play.

Brought to us at today's announcement of Pete Carroll's contract extension:

We love what Pete is doing here. He does a great job of winning games and graduating players.
-- Mike Garrett

Oh, you think Mike? Considering you were on the verge of being fired when Pete came in, somehow I figured you probably love what he's doing. And while you're at it, maybe you could replace "great" with something more appropriate, like "legendary, historybook-worthy, awesome".

But we're not getting caught up in semantics. We're just glad Garrett's doing what it takes to keep our favorite Mountain Dew enthusiast around for a few more years.
