Jeremiah Masoli is learning the hard way, it's probably not a good idea to mess with the SAE bros. After a long investigation Masoli, Oregon's stud QB and SC killer last year, is being charged with second degree burglary. Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry are accused of stealing two computers and a guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house on January 25th. Masoli and Embry will be arraigned in Lane County Circuit Court late Friday afternoon.
In other Oregon Ducks criminal news, LaMichael James, Oregon's stud RB and SC killer last year, will change his plea in the domestic assault case against him Friday morning at the Lane County Circuit Court. James originally pleaded not guilty to to five misdemeanor charges, including two counts of fourth-degree assault and two counts of physical harassment. James is accused of strangling his girlfriend, or a nicer way of putting it, "pushing her down by her neck".
Maybe Masoli, Embry and James can all carpool to the Lane County Circuit Court on Friday. Go green!
**UPDATE**
LaMichael James pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor harassment charge and has been sentenced to 10 days in jail and 24 months probation.
Jeremiah Masoli and Garrett Embry both pleaded guilty to burglary charges. They will each get 12 months probation, have to serve 140 hours of community service and will owe restitution due in 10 days. The restitution is more than $5,000.
USC has announced their spring practice schedule. Spring practice begins March 30th and the Trojans will practice every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for five weeks.
Times may change, but tentatively it looks like weekday practices will start at 4 pm and Saturday practices and will be at 11 am.
The Trojan Huddle will be played on Saturday May 1st at the Coliseum.
USC (16-9, 8-5 Pac-10) upset the Huskies (17-9, 7-7) at home last night 67-64. This was only the second time Washington had lost at home this season. Dwight Lewis led all scorers with 22 points, 16 in the first half. The Trojans are now only a half game back of Cal for first place in the Pac-10.
No one expected anything from the Trojans this season after losing Taj Gibson, DeMar DeRozan and Daniel Hackett to professional basketball. This year has been a pleasant surprise and a majority of the praise must go to coach Kevin O’Neill. It is very disappointing this team won’t get an opportunity to play in the post season, but with O’Neill running the program the future looks bright.
USC next game is at Washington State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
After defeating CAL and Stanford last week, the Trojans (14-9, 6-5) play FUCLA (11-12, 6-5) on Sunday looking for a home sweep of all the California schools. The game will air live on FSN at 7 pm.
On January 16th the Trojans defeated the Bruins 67-46. This was the Bruins worst loss ever at Pauley Pavilion. If you want tickets for the game on Sunday, click here.
Since 2007, VIZIO has recognized the professional football player who has performed above and beyond expectations, relative to his contract, with its VIZIO TOP VALUE PERFORMER award.
This years winner is former Trojan WR and NY Giant Steve Smith. Smith caught 107 passes for 1,220 yards and had 7 TDs. Last year his annual salary was a little more than $460,000. Smith beat out Ray Rice, Vincent Jackson, Mike Sims-Walker and Elvis Dumervil.
This is the second year in a row a Trojan has won this award. Last years winner was Matt Cassel.
Reggie Bush just won a Super Bowl ring. He is only the third player ever to win a Super Bowl, a college national championship and a Heisman Trophy. The other two are Marcus Allen (USC/Oakland Raiders) and Tony Dorsett (Pitt/Dallas Cowboys).
But all is not well in the land of Reggie. Saying I was disappointed after reading this article in the local San Diego news is an understatement. Whether it is true or not or whether there is more to the story that we don't know, it doesn't matter. This is something Reggie needs to fix, immediately.
School seniors Brandon Fountain and Matt Cobb were presented a $10,000 scholarship from Bush to use for college. Both ran into problems the following year when trying to contact the scholarship's trustee, Jerry Michaels.
"Mr. Michaels never responded. A couple of weeks later, he (Brandon) sent a second e-mail and still no response," said Fountain's father, Bruce.
"That's when we were told he was out of funds and due to the economy he didn't have the money," said Cobb.
10News contacted Michaels, who lives in Los Angeles. He said the scholarship program was set up years ago and Bush's people contacted him in an effort to get involved. Michaels said Bush's people promised to contribute to the funds but never followed through. The existing scholarship was funded by previous investments in the stock market, and those stocks did not do well.
While Bush posed with them at Helix High and was credited for "giving back" to his former school, Fountain and Cobb were left with an empty promise and a scholarship with Bush's name and without his assistance.
As one of the biggest USC Homers alive, the last thing I ever want to do is to make a villain out of a former Trojan. Especially one that was so dynamic to watch and helped win two national championships. I know that in New Orleans Bush has contributed large amounts of money to children's organizations and is loved in the community. Hopefully this is just an oversight on his part and this unfortunate situation will be fixed.
You read that correctly, the Trojans were down 30-27 at halftime and went on a 25-0 run to take a 42-30 lead in the second half. Cal (14-8, 6-4) was held scoreless in the second half for 10:46. USC (13-9, 5-5 Pac-10) went on to win the game 66-63.
Dwight Lewis scored 13 points and set a school record for most games played as a Trojan (125). Mike Gerrity had 12 points and hit two clutch 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game.
The Trojans next opponent is at home vs. Stanford on Saturday at 4:30pm PT.
The top offensive lineman prospect in the nation is coming to USC.
Seantrel Henderson chose the Trojans over Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Minnesota and Miami. Henderson is a 6’8 300 lb. offensive tackle and considered by many the top recruit in the country.
With Kurt Warner’s retirement, Matt Leinart should get another shot at being the starting QB in Arizona. Don Banks at SI takes a closer look at Matt’s career as a Cardinal. Banks points out some interesting facts that might surprise you. Here is a tease:
He's not a first-round bust. Not yet, anyway. Just a guy who couldn't beat out a future Hall of Fame quarterback who was in the midst of maybe the greatest late-career resurgence of all time. Looking at it through that prism, Matt Leinart still has a chance to wind up being the right call for the Cardinals after all.
The men's basketball team (12-7, 4-3) play the Oregon St. Beavers (8-11, 2-5) tonight at 5:30 pm in Corvallis. The game will be televised on FSN Northwest. The Trojans are 10-3 in their last 13 games.
On Saturday they will face the Oregon Ducks (10-9, 2-5) at 3:00 pm in Eugene. In their last seven match ups vs. the Ducks, the Trojans are 6-1.
