Matt Leinart
Posted by ESPN.com's Ted Miller Ever wonder what a coach might say about a quarterback competition the day before he announces a pecking order? You're in luck! USC coach Pete Carroll stopped by for a chat with the Pac-10 blog on Monday, the day before he announced on his Web site that Aaron Corp would emerge from spring practices...

Matt Barkley is the future of USC football. It's not a question of if. It's a question of when. And the when is not now. Pete wants the race to continue because competition breeds motivation and motivation breeds precision and innovation. The media wants the race to continue because humans love struggle and struggle sells papers. And you, you want the race to continue because its Spring, and not the good Spring but the after Trojan basketball season ended type of Spring...the way too many months until football Spring. So I don't want to be the one to play the role of coroner and notify the families, but everyone's still staring at the track when the finish line's already broken.
Please keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times, you're about to enter the Trojan DePo.

Remember a couple of years back, when the media made a big to-do about Bill Parcells referring to Terrell Owens as “the player”? Well, meet the latest version of “the player” - Reggie Bush. Not coincidentally, the man who referred to the former USC Heisman Trophy winner that way is a Parcells disciple - New Orleans Saints coach Sean...

At one point this week it looked like Kurt Warner might be headed to the San Francisco 49ers instead of resigning with the Arizona Cardinals. This would have given Matt Leinart the starting job on a team that just played in the Super Bowl and has arguably the best wide receiver in the league, Larry Fitzgerald. Matt is learning that you can’t always get what you want.
Warner and the Cardinals agreed Wednesday to a two-year, $23 million deal. Warner is quoted as saying,
Now it's my job for the next two years to go fulfill my part of the deal.
What does this mean for Leinart? Hopefully more pictures of him sticking beer bongs between the lips of hot young coeds, ERRRRrrrrr another season backing up and learning from a potential Hall of Famer. Possibly even a change of a scenery and fresh start on a different franchise.

An important member of the Trojan family passed away last week. Ryan Davidson had been battling cancer for 9 and 1/2 years. He lost the battle on his 16th birthday, but will be remembered around USC for winning everybody's heart. For the past four seasons, Davidson would visit USC's locker room even though he lived in Wisconsin. He served...

Love this guy. Troy Polamalu celebrates after his pick-6 in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game.
Two other Trojans are Super Bowl bound. Backing up the resurgent Kurt Warner is Matt Leinart. And protecting them is Deuce Lutui.

Former Trojan Matt Cassel’s continuing success with the New England Patriots prompted USC coach Pete Carroll to recall Cassel’s pro-day workout, when he went from unknown backup to draftable commodity. “He was an underdog,” Carroll said. “He had such a phenomenal day. They flooded him afterward - all the scouts came up to get his name and phone number....

Cary Edmondson/US Presswire Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel has turned some heads with his performance this season filling in for Tom Brady. Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham There might still be some Matt Cassel doubters out there. Among NFL insiders, however, the New England Patriots quarterback is viewed with a high degree of respect. Their admiration of Cassel has only grown...

Troy Polamalu (S, Pittsburgh) had one of the crazier weekends in the NFL. His three tackles (one for a 4-yard loss) and 4-yard interception return were pretty typical. His broken-up lateral returned for a touchdown was not. Referees incorrectly overturned the play, and later admitted their mistake. The Steelers pulled out a 11-10 victory over San Diego, the first...

There were a lot of questions about the conservative game plan last week and it made me wonder why it was such a big deal to make Mark Sanchez play more under control when Matt Leinart made a career off throwing passes to tight ends and running backs? So here's a good way to explain it: Mark Sanchez tends...

Carson Palmer. Matt Leinart. Yogi Roth? USC quarterback Mark Sanchez said he has done some soul-searching recently. An uneven performance against Arizona two weeks ago prompted him to call the former USC Heisman quarterbacks, Palmer and Leinart. He said a sit-down last week with Roth, the USC quarterbacks graduate assistant, particularly helped him to relax this past weekend against...
