Lane Kiffin Introduced as a Raider

Kyle Bunch, TrojanWire

lane-kiffin-raider.jpgLane Kiffin is now the youngest head coach in the NFL at 31. Something that we're sure to hear plenty about, once the "first black coach Super Bowl" talk dies down around August. We're stoked for Lane, and hope he excels at his new position. And while we're sure many doubters will bet against him, it just might work.

After all, the last time a young coach took over the Raiders, he got a franchise with some pieces that hadn't been meshing to come together, before passing it off to Bill Callahan and beating their ass in Super Bowl XXXVII with the Bucs. And this current Raiders team has a defense -- if Lane can pull together an offense (without poaching the USC staff, naturally), they could be a 9-7 team this time next year. Might not be good enough in the AFC, but they're young, he's young, give them a couple years. Go Lane Go.

But -- you tell me if you would want this guy as your boss.

Come on now let's give Mr. Davis a break. He has done more in football than just about any body. He hired the first Hispanic coach in Tom Flores, who was also the first minority coach to win a Super Bowl. Mr. Davis also hired the first african american coach in Art Shell. Also, though I do not know her name, the Raiders chief executive is the first female NFL head executive. SO LET"S HAVE A LITTLE RESPECT FOR MR DAVIS.

Kiffen should be honored to work for Davis and the Raiders. IT is a franchise with a great history and hopefully Lane can help return the Raiders to prominence.
