Pacific 10 Conference commissioner Larry Scott's announcement that the league is "very seriously" looking at expansion in the next 12 months has created a buzz in cyberspace, and for good reason. A raid of another conference would alter the playing field in college football for years to come. A look at some of the reaction:Dennis Dodd, CBS Sports.com: Expansion... more »

The assignment: Rank the top-10 Pac-10 players of the decade. Gulp. The list of folks not on this list includes numerous consensus All-Americans, award winners and record-setting players. So feel free to disagree. And, yes, NFL success sometimes functioned as a tiebreaker, which is why Reggie Williams, Mike Williams, Rien Long, Dave Ball, J.J. Arrington, Mike Hass, Derek Hagan... more »

Posted by ESPN.com's Ted Miller The backup quarterback is just a bruised shoulder or broken jaw away from taking over the most critical position on the field -- just ask USC or UCLA. There's already been plenty of quarterback movement in the conference -- injuries, depth chart changes, etc. -- so it seemed like a good time to see... more »

The Doc Saturday crew peruses the weekly lines and pulls out a few shockers. Chris Brown: Central Michigan (+13.5) over Arizona. I like Arizona, I really do. I like what Mike Stoops has done, and within a few years, offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes (son of former Texas Tech legend Spike Dykes and protege of fellow Texas Tech legend, Captain... more »

When I was writing about Florida's chances of repeating as mythical champs, it struck me just how similar the Gators were to the last two uber-talented teams who opened the following season No. 1 and seemed destined to repeat: Miami in 2002 and USC in 2005. Like Florida, both teams:• Returned a senior Heisman contender in his third year... more »

Turns out it was Mike Leach who was aboard Alaska Flight 601 from Las Vegas to Seattle on Monday. A passenger aboard the flight alerted Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times that he spotted Leach on the flight and Condotta and Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal have since confirmed that Leach talked with Washington officials. Is Leach, 47, considering... more »

USC coach Pete Carroll said he favored the current running-back rotation. ``It worked out really well,'' Carroll said. ``Stafon (Johnson) ran really well inside. Getting Joe (McKnight) in space was really helpful. (Johnson's) just a good player. The cut he makes (on his 22-yard touchdown) is a phenomenal cut. It was every bit as good as Reggie (Bush) made... more »

I was watching a classic replay of USC vs. Fresno State tonight on FSN Prime Ticket. It was one of the most exhilarating games that the Trojans have played in years, and Reggie Bush put on a performance for the ages. His 513 all-purpose yards practically clinched the Heisman that evening. Petros Papadakis was calling the game, and after... more »

He doesn't have any sympathy for a UCLA team that has been outscored 90-10 the last two games. Pat Hill and about 20,000 of his friends will drop by the Rose Bowl on Saturday, and the Fresno State football coach won't have any sympathy for a UCLA team that has been outscored 90-10 the last two games.... more »

With no more cats on the schedule, UCLA is relaxing for now... until they realize they have Cynophobia too — an abnormal fear of dogs. The Fresno State Bulldogs and the Washington Huskies are both capable of putting beatdowns on the baby bears.

BCS Guru, who has successfully predicted the BCS poll standings for the last few years, has released the unofficial BCS poll standings after week one of the 2008 college football season. The results? One of the really entertaining things about UCLA partisans Bruins Nation is how staunchly on-message it is at all times. It’s apparent some of its founders have political backgrounds. When the message was "Fire Karl Dorrell," no opportunity was missed, no sentence was written that might weaken the campaign. Not even after a 26-point win. Not even if it was... more »
