Tonight, you may have noticed, marked the return of blessed college football, and the return of sideline favorite Erin Andrews to broadcast television for the first time since her unwitting appearance on that loathsome peephole video flew around the Web last month. The game? Largely uneventful, to put it mildly. Andrews' appearance? Largely uneventful, to put it mildly.

She showed up without fanfare, without undue comment, and carried on her typical duties with all her characteristic poise and professionalism. The Worldwide Leader's college football machine whirred on without a blip as she delivered injury reports and chased a recalcitrant Steve Spurrier down the sideline before and after the game.

So that puts this whole thing to rest, right? Andrews is back, and she's going back to work. The cameras didn't pick up any lewd signs or any catcalls from leering frat boys in the student section. Nobody at home had any reason to feel all creepy. Football returns, and we're going back to work ourselves. Fin.

(And from the "the more things change" department, ESPN stylists continue to display their utter hatred for their on-air talent, swaddling Andrews in an inexplicable scarf surpassed for hideousness only by the Gamecock and Wolfpack offenses. Like the woman hasn't been through enough this summer.)

Welcome back, EA. Game on.

Trust me, I hate covering this as much as you. But when the kickoff to college football season is being clearly overshadowed in terms of interest, I don't have much of a choice. So let's break things down.

In summary: nothing happened. Erin Andrews and the ESPN crew were consummate professionals, of course. She wore a tasteful little number, and no references were made by anybody (including, as far as we were shown, the fans) to anything but football. It might be just my imagination, but she chimed in a little less than usual, and a number of those were V/O's only. But then, I've never watched a game just for the sideline reporter appearances before.

Though it was an uneventful night, that doesn't mean the Internet ran out of opinions. To get a good sense of public impressions, I turned, as I often do, to Twitter.

The Twitterati were in rare form tonight...no, wait, they were in very common form. A few trenchant gems overwhelmed by the flood of terrible jokes that are currently sitting, unapproved in the DUAN! post's comments. But this is the pulse of America tonight.

I kind of like that last one. "Who the heck cares so much about this crap?" Amen to that, anonymous Twitterer. Now let's all move on.

A perv secretly taped former University of Florida cheerleader and ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews while she was changing to the delight of pervs everywhere. The grainy clip was taken through a peephole in a hotel room where Andrews was staying, and later posted to the internet in an attempt to sell the video. One person not so happy about the peeping tom is Andrews herself. According to Wesh.com who ran the story, such voyeuristic taping can be a felony in Florida.

Rey Maualuga was on the Dan Patrick show yesterday. They talked about his falling in the draft, Chad OchoCinco, Pete Carroll and Erin Andrews.

Erin Andrews was looking nice at the ESPYS last night. This dress is quite popular. "Rollergirl" Heather Graham was seen wearing the dress at The Hangover premiere and Laguna Beach\The Hills actress Kristin Cavallari also wore it to some event.

Super hot sportscaster Erin Andrews shouldn't participate in any activities where balls fly at her face -- "Clueless" anyone? -- because a line drive hit her perfect mug last night during the Mets/Dodgers game.

Andrews -- who serves as a sideline reporter for ESPN -- was struck in the chin by a foul ball hit by New York Mets player Alex Cora during the 4th inning.

Erin was hustled to the hospital a few innings later, but only suffered a bruised chin.

So the ESPN everywoman and patron saint of blog traffic got her bell rung by an errant foul ball at last night's Mets-Dodgers game. She's fine, just bruised up, and ESPN says she'll resume her duties right away. Our (and by "our," I feel totally comfortable saying I'm speaking for college football fans everywhere of all persuasions) very best wishes for an SEC-speed recovery and better timing on live television.

But EA, honey, stay away from baseball. It's boring, and the Internet would literally collapse in on itself if anything happened to you. (Erin Andrews Erin Andrews Erin Andrews.)

And he wouldn't disappoint.

He started the year off with a bang, embarrassing Virginia and returning an interception for a touchdown in the domination of Ohio State.

He made time before a road game to wish a 5-year old girl happy birthday.

He was named the best defensive player in college football and led the Trojans to their third Rose Bowl victory in three seasons.

And for his final act in cardinal and gold, he danced with ESPN sideline vixen Erin Andrews:
