Bruce Feldman's Final Draft Analysis

A great weekend for the USC program cemented just how amazing the Trojans' 2003 recruiting class was. Sedrick Ellis, Sam Baker and Lawrence Jackson are the three latest members of USC's 2003 class, which I think should go down as the best recruiting class in modern college football history (i.e. when teams couldn't sign as many recruits as they want), to be drafted in the first round, joining Reggie Bush from two years ago. As of now, the Trojans have an astounding nine first-day draft picks from that class: Baker, Bush, Ellis, Jackson, Ryan Kalil, Steve Smith, Terrell Thomas, LenDale White and Eric Wright. (There also could be a 10th coming in 2009 when DT Fili Moala comes through.) Other USC '03s that have been drafted are John David Booty, Will Poole, Chauncey Washington and Thomas Williams.

2008 Recruiting Dinner

The scene was on court at the Galen Center again, where a couple times Pete Carroll expressed his desire to see Tim Floyd's bunch hand the Bruins another loss this year.

Carroll said this class was about "bigs" not "flash" and he felt fortunate that the Trojans were in a position to play it this way, this year. Joe McKnight was sure excited about the 5 solid offensive line prospects.

After the jump are some notes from last nights event.

USC Safety Josh Pinkard Arrested

Pictures from newsimg.bbc.co.uk & uscfootballblog.blogspot.com

Safety Josh Pinkard was arrested May 18 on the suspicion of drunk driving, reports Gary Klein of the LA Times. Pete Carroll confirmed Tuesday that the arrest had been made.

Pinkard, a junior from Oxnard, was arrested on May 18 at 3:44 a.m. after a California Highway Patrol officer noticed a car swerving...Pinkard, 21, gave a breath sample after he was stopped and another after he was taken to the CHP's East Los Angeles station, according to (CHP Spokes person) Precardio.

In usual Pete Carroll fashion, he implied he would speak to Pinkard directly before making any judgments as to how this will affect the player and the team. This arrest is just one in a string of discipline problems faced by Carroll in the past two years. Legal woes have included such notable players as Eric Wright, Rey Maualuga, Mark Sanchez and Reggie Bush.

"We're looking into it and we'll find out the details," Carroll said. "As usual, we'll handle it internally. We take this seriously and we want to make sure we understand all of the circumstances."

Josh Pinkard is scheduled to appear in East Los Angeles Municipal Court on July 24.

Say What?

Did anyone notice this line from highly respected NFL anaylst Gil Brandt on former USC defensive back Eric Wright?
``When you talk to him, he will convince you he did nothing wrong and his roommate was to blame (the police found over 100 ecstasy pills in his apartment).''
Wright's roommate was USC tailback Desmond Reed. Paging Wright's lawyer Carmen Trutanich!

Legal opinion on Mark Sanchez case

Carmen Trutanich, the lawyer for Hershel Dennis, Eric Wright and Rey Maualuga, offered his own opinion on the Mark Sanchez case. "From what I'm hearing from people, it looks like a weak case,'' Trutanich said.

Wright to Leave USC

Facing possible suspension/expulsion from USC for rape allegations, the cornerback, who made an interception in last years Orange Bowl victory, has

decided to cut loose and go play somewhere else rather than take his chances at a June 15th hearing.

DA Drops Case Against Wright

There was insufficient evidence to charge cornerback Eric Wright with rape.

And no drug charges will be filed either, since they can't prove the 136 ecstasy pills discovered in the apartment belong to Wright or his roomate Desmond

Reed.
