Ed Orgeron

By Jay Christensen, The Wiz of Odds
How distrustful are Southeastern Conference coaches of league officials? At the moment, it's off the chart. Tennessee's Lane Kiffin acknowledged that he decided against running another play before his team set up for a field goal that would have beaten Alabama because he was fearful officials would have found another way to penalize his team. Tennessee was one of... more »

Somewhere, deep in the bowels of Neyland Stadium, there is video evidence of Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron pretending to be reporters for the benefit of a handful of Tennessee recruits, and really -- for Coach O especially, preferably in one those old school fedoras with the press pass in the brim -- this is one of the moments... more »

Pete Carroll said he spoke to former USC defensive line coach Ed Orgeron but did not offer him the defensive coordinator's job. ``I did talk to Ed in case it didn't work out with the other guys,'' Carroll said. ``I talked to a lot of guys. This is a pretty popular job.''... more »

Long overdue props to the man with the mustache. Pat Ruel has groomed offensive line juggernauts Ryan Kalil, Deuce Lutui, Sam Baker, Fred Matua and Winston Justice.

His draw is comparable to that of Ed Orgeron and has helped him win many recruits outside his position.

Possibly something that Carroll rubbed off on him:

"Pete's like a beautiful woman," Ruel said after taking the job. "The closer you get, you better look out. He is very charismatic. He can smile and make you feel like a million dollars."

Everybody should be feeling like a million bucks if the Golden Ruel can get Jeff Byers and company opening those truck-sized holes we saw against Nebraska last year.

You think only players get recruited at the Senior Bowl? Think again. Glenn Guilbeau of the Gannett News Service is reporting that Ed Orgeron has been hired as the new defensive line coach to the New Orleans Saints.

"He comes very well recommended from a lot of people," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said.

Orgeron, USC's former recruiting coordinator and D-line coach helped form the likes of Sedrick Ellis, Lawrence Jackson and Keith Rivers into the super-star players they are today.
