A-Rod Shoots to Kill

USC forward Amy Rodriguez is worth her weight in gold. Her skills have become ever more apparent as Rodriguez scored the only goal for the US Olympic team in a 1-0 exhibition shutout against Women's World Cup runner-up Brazil on Sunday. With the win, the U.S. women's national team improved to 20-0-1 in 2008. According to SoccerAmerica.com:

Rodriguez, a halftime sub, crushed a rising shot into the roof of the net at the near post from 10 yards out after a cross by Abby Wambach skipped through the legs of a Brazilian defender and took a slight deflection right into Rodriguez's path.

U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage: "... I think we did that in the second half. The fact that we were more patient, kept possession in the midfield and in the back, and at the same time we had A-Rod up top. That was the difference in the second half."

It was the US Team's 6th straight shutout. U.S.A and Brazil rematch on Wednesday in San Diego for the ladies final exhibition game before heading to Beijing. Then the real challenge begins August 6th, when the U.S. takes on Norway its Olympic opener.
