Angelo Johnson
From Rivals.com:2. USC Star of the class: O.J. Mayo. After a much bally-hooed high school career that was played under the national microscope, the former five-star prospect moved from a small pond in Huntington, West Virginia to the bright lights of Los Angeles. He helped the Trojans return to the NCAA tournament and raised the program's reputation on a...

If Oregon State's season was compared to the fur-trade of the 19th century, the Beavers would be teetering on the brink of extinction. The Oregon State Beavers entered the Galen Center having lost 16 in a row, winless in the Pac-10. They left with a 17th consecutive loss, and are only three away from losing their entire conference schedule.
This weekend was another story for the Hackett-less Trojans. USC managed to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive with a sweep of both Oregon teams. Mayo led the dominant Trojans with 21 pts, including four 3-pointers, 5 rebounds and three steals. Three other Trojans - Lewis, Johnson and Gibson had double digit scores. Freshman Angelo Johnson hit 4-5 from the 3-point line, including three in a row early in the second half increasing the Trojan lead by as much as 35pts.

Trojans Pull Off Oregon Win, 81-75
It wasn't pretty for most of the game, but USC has come out on top. After trailing to the Ducks throughout the entire first half, the Trojans battled it out in the second, pulling off a vital win. It was the first game after OJ Mayo scored an embarrassing 4 points against UCLA, and unfortunately for Oregon, it was they who suffered his revenge.

O.J. Mayo, Davon Jefferson and Angelo Johnson shared their thoughts after the game last night. Davon's composure and frame of mind just minutes after the final buzzer were remarkable. O.J. was using some language he hasn't allowed most people in the media to hear before, but we couldn't share that here. Tough loss....

From ESPN.com:Mayo showed his brilliance as a scorer, with 20 of his 29 points in the first half, but it was the rest of the Trojans keying a second-half surge as USC routed Washington 73-59 on Thursday night. Daniel Hackett played against Arizona State despite the hip-pointer he suffered against Arizona on Thursday. Still, remnants of the injury were present, as in his 18 minutes of play, Hackett only accounted for 2 points and 3 rebounds. It was Taj Gibson's turn to fill the void and play OJ Mayo's wingman, pulling in 19 points, 7 rebounds and four blocked shots. Mayo finished with 20pts which included a pair of threes as the Trojans went on to beat the Sun Devils, 67-53.

Daniel Hackett's defense has been integral down the stretch and last night his presence showed. Or rather, didn't show. The Daily Trojan said it best, "Trojans can't Hackett against Arizona team". The Trojans lost the clutch starting guard in the first two minutes, and it showed big time in the last seven, as Arizona beat USC, 80-69.
It was Hackett who forced key stops in the last minutes against the #4 UCLA team. It was Hackett who conbtributed 8pts in the overtime win over Oregon. Still, USC kept a slight lead over Arizona with seven minutes left on the clock. But the combination of the Wildcats out-rebounding USC, and knocking down key 3-pointers (Arizona 10-21, .476 vs. USC 4-17, .235) was too much for the Trojans to handle.
"Daniel is a critical part of our team defensively," Floyd said. "He's a shutdown defender on the perimeter."

The USC Trojans started off ranked #18 in the AP pre-season poll, but were quickly booted off the list after opening the season with a disappointing upset-loss to Mercer. Well guess who's back? The Trojans rebounded to win their next five straight, improving to 5-1 on the season. Their most recent win came on Sunday night with a decisive victory over the #19 Southern Illinois to clinch the first ever Anaheim Classic. Now it's Southern Illinois that got the boot, and the USC Trojans are back on the board at #22.
USC has a solid cast of talented play-makers, guys like OJ Mayo, Daniel Hackett, Davon Jefferson, Dwight Lewis, Taj Gibson and Angelo Johnson. These guys have been rotating off the bench, splitting the ball and putting up big numbers. And as a team, their defense has been improving with every game. If the team keeps playing like they did on Sunday, it seems likely that the Trojan freight train will keep on rolling.

Superstar recruit Mayo's 32-pts couldn't lift Floyd's Trojans to victory.
OJ Mayo brought his special sauce to the Galen Center for the basketball season opener against the Mercer Bears, leading the Trojans with 32 points, a school record set by a freshman in his debut. Still, USC couldn’t hang with the small school from Georgia, as the Bears took control of the game early on, eventually beating the #18 Trojans 96-81.
