USC tailback Joe McKnight, coming off a career game, missed practice Monday because of an injured right big toe. McKnight wore a boot on his right foot. Dick Butkus was Pete’s guest and addressed the team after the scrimmage by telling them:

“You guys kicked my team’s ass in the Rose Bowl last year!”

Ken Norton also introduced Dick to his two Butkus candidates, Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing.
