2009 Recruiting Update, Part II
The class is ranked No. 4 by Rivals and No. 4 by ESPN.
Jarvis Jones and Frankie Telfort (the first Miami native to choose USC in the Carroll era) were nice last minute additions.
It is still tough to ignore all the chatter about the loss of four highly-touted early commits: Vontaze Burfict, Morrell Presley, Randall Carroll and Alshon Jeffery. Hey, the loss is theirs. But Pete Carroll might rethink getting such early commitments — painting gigantic targets on these guys for other schools to come and hone their attack on USC.
We'll be back tomorrow with more thoughts from tonight's recruiting dinner.
Comments
Could be a bad idea to paint recruits with a big bullseye, but Carroll loves the competition!
The question: is every year like this, only we usually don't know it, b/c the process has changed to encourage more early commits, or was this not USC's finest year, and did (PERHAPS) the rather high-profile defections of Moody, et.al. contribute here. (Or perhaps it's Kiffin's unimpressive play calling?)
Teo, Burfict, and Presley are all particularly surprising in this regard.
