2004
Congratulations to Matt Leinart for winning the 2004 Heisman Trophy Award.
Leinart Wins USC's Sixth Heisman [L.A. Times]
It's official--Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart will both be in attendance at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City on Saturday, when the Heisman Trophy is handed out. Joining the Trojans' offensive stars will be a pair of Oklahoma Sooners--QB Jason White and RB Adrian Peterson, as well as a fifth, Alex Smith, the QB from Utah.
TrojanWire will now sit back and eagerly anticipate an announcement of a USC sweep of the 1-2 spots; but in all honesty, we'll settle for any scenario that winds up with a Trojan bringing home the hardware for the second time in three years.
Heisman Coverage [ESPN.com]
We've been pushing Reggie Bush as the Heisman candidate all year long because the award is not about statistics, it's about the best player in college football.
He's the guy who gives USC its extra gear, a dazzling, multifaceted playmaker whose every touch is as tantalizing as the Victoria's Secret catalogue.
Not to discredit Alessandra, Adriana, Heidi, Gisele and Tyra, but we couldn't agree more. And last Saturday against UCLA, Reggie gave Heisman voters a little reminder of what the best player in college football can do.

"The Heisman buzz on Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson is strong, as it should be. Ditto for Leinart and Sooners QB Jason White. But when it comes topure, all-around, pound-for-pound value from a college football player, it’s hard to beat what Bush brings to the table. Kirk Herbstreit, the sanest and
least annoying of the ESPN bobbleheads, has maintained all season that Bush is the best player in the country."
